Good evening. I figured I’d join in the blogging fun for a turn. So today was a big day. It marked halfway through the first phase of treatment. It was Des’s first outpatient experience,. And first day of using a power wheels car as a mode of transportation for 3 ft of travel from the kitchen to the stairs. You might think, “What a great idea for Des. It might help with the muscle fatigue and ability to mobilize a little more.” Oh no, let me stop you there. It was Solomon and Luke who needed the ride. They are all a bunch of yahoos! This isolation time will be full of moments like these. I’m sure of it.

Back to Des. He was a champ, of course. At least that’s what the nurses said. Once the initial pokes and routine is laid, he is fine, but getting past that is a real trick. He got his Chemotherapy there (Vincristine, if you’re medicine savvy), and an art therapy session. I’ve really enjoyed and seen the benefit of this particular therapy. He was painting while the leukemia cells were getting the ol’ 1, 2 punch. It offered more quality to this time, and not to mention her welcome advice to make this medical stuff a little more livable.

Outpatient pediatric services for us are in the NOVAK center downtown. I’ll expand more on that another time, but wow. I’ll just say for now that they have benches with totally posh lighting inside them. Wow. Super cool.

I’ll end with two bits of random findings- 1. Dr said, and Dr was right. Ice cream helped the medicine go down today. 2. The parking garage guy was the cherry on top of the genuine and caring people that have helped our son today.
